Greetings from Mr Hans-Juerg Kaeser, Member of the Government of the Canton of Berne
Dear Federal Councillor
Dear Ambassadors
Dear Commanders of the Police Forces
Dear Representatives of the Police Corps, Military Troops and Frontier Guards
Dear Partners and Sponsors
Dear Representatives of Local Councils
Dear Sportspeople
In many European police corps and similar institutions there are numerous passionate ice hockey fans, who themselves play the game actively in their spare time.
After carrying out several Swiss championships a highly motivated committee made the decision to organise a European ice hockey event for teams out of the area of public safety for February 2009. The actual hockey games will take place in Lyss (main venue of the games), Huttwil (national sports centre), Wichtrach and Worb.
The interested public can look forward to seeing outstanding and exciting but faire matches. We are very honoured and proud that so many teams have already announced their participation in the tournament (Belarus, Lithuania, Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland).
The preparations have been running full tour for quite some time. The ice stadiums have been reserved for the venue, voluntary helpers have been recruited and partners and sponsors have assured the Organising Committee of their full support. Now has come the time of detail planning to ensure a smooth running event.
As the person who is responsible for the field of sports in the Canton of Berne, which is a part of the department of police and military affairs, I am honoured and privileged but also obliged to take on the patronage of this outstanding event. In this capacity I can open doors for the Organising Committee and establish contacts to ensure the success of this high-scaled tournament.
I am impressed by the dedication of the Organising Committee and together with you I am looking forward to this exciting event.
Hans-Juerg Kaeser
Head of the Cantonal Police of Berne
